The Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF, Ms. Hilde Frafjord Johnson in Ethiopia

The Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF, Ms. Hilde Frafjord Johnson, visited Ethiopia 19-22 June to review the emergency situation in drought-affected areas . Ms. Johnson travelled to hotspot woredas in the southern part of the country (SNNPR) and met with Government, UN partners, donors and NGOs involved in the humanitarian response to the emergency. Ms. Johnson, a former long term and prominent Norwegian Minister of International Development met with the Embassy for exchange of views of the humanitarian situation and other issues.

Ms. Hilde Frafjord Johnson joined UNICEF on 14 August 2007 as Deputy Executive Director.  Ms. Johnson brings extensive experience in political leadership, international development and partnerships. She has served as Minister for International Development and member of the Norwegian government/cabinet, for almost seven years, covering 1997-2000 and 2001-2005. Ms. Johnson was key to engineering and implementing a major structural reform of the administration of the Norwegian development
