Norwegian State Secretary Ingrid Fiskaa visits Ethiopia, 23-25 February

22.02.2010 // The Norwegian state Secretary for Environment and International Development Ingrid Fiskaa will visit Ethiopia 23-25 February. The main focus of her visit is to get an insight into the Norwegian Development Cooperation with Ethiopia and to take part in the international High Level Forum on Education for All , being held in Addis Ababa. This is Ms.Fiskaas first travel to Africa as a State Secretary.

More than 70 million children worldwide lack access to education and schooling. In Ethiopia, this applies for more than three million girls. Fiskaa will take part in field-trips to take a close look at measures taken by the Ethoipian government and UNICEF, with Norwegian support, to strengthen girls’ education initiatives and quality education. Ms. Fiskaa will also follow up projects undertaken in the fight against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Ethiopia is a pilot country for Norwegian support to fight FGM, and surveys undertaken   in 2008 clearly indicate that the prevalence of FGM is decreasing all over Ethiopia.

State Secretary Fiskaa will also discuss Norwegian support to hydropower development withwith H.E Ato Asfaw Dingamo, Minister of Water Resources and discuss the developments of the One-UN agenda in Ethiopia with State Minister for Finance and Economic Decelopment H.E Ahmed Shide.
