Norway donates 8 million NOK in humanitarian aid to Ethiopia
23.10.2009 //
Due to the pressing humanitarian situation, where 6.2 million people require emergency humanitarian assistance, the Ethiopian Government on 22 October 2009 pledged for immediate international support.
As a response to this, Norway has granted an immediate allocation of 8 million NOK, about 16 million ETB. The sum will be divided between UNOCHAs Humanitarian Response Fund and the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation.
This donation comes on top of previous Norwegian support this year.
Ambassador Jens-Petter Kjemprud says that "Norway is happy to announce an immediate response with grants to FAO and UN-OCHA. Norway will follow the situation closely with possibilities of further contributions".
