Eng. Mahboub Maalim briefed the delegates about plans for IGAD to restructure the secretariat and the situation of the IGAD region.
Eng. Maalim emphasized the need to carry on study on three main areas
- Minimum integration
- The Structure of IGAD
- Capacity building
Ambassador Raffaele de Lutio, highlighted on the necessity to find "mechanism to materialize and work practically".
Accompanied the Executive Secretary were Ambassador Abdelrahim A. Khalil, Director of CEWARN, Amabassador Hiruy Amanuel, Director of ICPAT and Ambassador Abuzeid el Hassan, IGAD's liaison officer to the African Union.
Earlier the Executive secretary met with representatives from UNDP in an effort to mobilize resources and capacity building for IGAD.
"This is a comprehensive mission and valuable opportunity for the region," said Eng. Mahboub Maalim. "The need for IGAD to revitalize is stronger than ever. The future is bright and optimistic".
Minister counsellor Rolf Ree attended the meeting representing Norway. Norway do co-chair the IGAD Partners Forum sub committee on Sudan.
