On the 26th of July at the AU Summit in Kampala, IGAD Executive Secretary Maalim Maboub and Ambassador of Norway Jens Petter Kjemprud signed an agreement worth 2,9 million NOK, as support to the establishment of an IGAD Liaison Office in Juba, Southern Sudan. .
The establishment of an IGAD Liaison Office in Juba is linked with next year’s referendum in the Sudan, regarding the status of the southern part of the country. The office will play an important role in facilitating dialogue between the Northern and Southern part of the country on the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).
The support is complimentary to and aligned with ongoing efforts from various stakeholders, including AU and EU to follow up the implementation of the CPA signed in 2005.
