Norway supports UNICEF, Ethiopia

Last updated: 02.09.2009 // The Norwegian Royal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has supported UNICEF, Ethiopia with NOK 2.5 million to improve warehouse capacity.

Norway’s support will mainly contribute to the logistical capacity of UNICEF’s work by improving the availability and management of warehouses. In-country logistics, which includes port/customs clearance, warehousing and transportation, is one of the major support areas where UNICEF has been involved in order to implement humanitarian projects in Ethiopia.

As part of its on-going humanitarian assistance to the Government and people of Ethiopia, UNICEF has been engaged in supporting various development and emergency projects in the country through provisions of supply and equipment inputs supplied from offshore and local sources.

The logistical capacity limitation that exists in the country has been one of the issues that need to improve in line with an ever increasing need on the ground. The issue of limited warehouse facility to handle the volume of supply remains a major challenge affecting efficient inventory management system. The importance of increasing such capacities are highly recognised by Norway.
