Save the Children Norway in Ethiopia. Comprehensive engagement.

Save the Children, Norway has a comprehensive and impressive programme in Ethiopia. In a leaflet presenting their 2007 activities programme for Ethiopia it traspires that their total budget for 2007 was close to 73 million birr (nearly 8 million USD), the bulk of it
(57%) going to support of education activities, 17 % for prevention of violence and sexual abuses, 9% to food security and  7% respectively to Childrens rigts and prevention of HIV/AIDS.
 
According to Save the Children the organisation reached more than 740.000 children in 2007 through the following five strategic objectives:
  • Basic education. More than 500.000 children got access to basic education and improved learning (48% girls).
  • Food security. A total of 24.050 children benefitted from the various food security projects.
  • Protection against violence and sexual abuse. More than 45.000 children were reached.
  • HIV/AIDS Prevention. More than 134.000 childrn, including orphans and other vulnerable children, were adressed.
  • Child Rights. A total of nearly 32. 000 children benefited from the various child right focused activities.
Save the Children Norway-Ethiopia is a non-political, non-religious and non-profit international organisation that promotes the rights of children in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Save the Children Norway began its operations in Ethiopia in 1969.
Today it cooperates with Government authorities at national and regional level as well as national NGOs. It receives support from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs the Norwegian Embassy in Ethiopia as well as other Embassies and UN-organisations UNICEF and UNESCO.
