Ministry recognises Norwegian Contribution to the Promotion of Human Rights

03.03.2009 // The Royal Norwegian Embassy has been awarded a certificate of appreciation from the Ministry of Justice of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

The Ministry of Justice of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia awarded the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Addis Ababa with a certificate of appreciation for the technical and financial contributions made by the Norwegian Government for the human rights training for judges and prosecutors project. In a dinner hosted by the Ministry on the 21st of February at Ras Hotel HE Ambassador Jens-Petter Kjemprud received the certificate on behalf of the Embassy from the former Minister of Justice HE Ato Harka Haroye.

In June 2003 the Ministry and the Embassy entered a four-year agreement to train judges and prosecutors in all regions of Ethiopia with a 10 million birr financial contribution by the Norwegian Government. More than 20 senior lawyers participated in a training of trainers’ course at the University of Oslo and managed to train 4,495 judges, prosecutors, police officers and other law enforcement personnel exceeding the projects’ target by about 12%.

On the occasion individuals within the Ministry were also awarded with certificates and gifts for their contributions. HE Ato Assfea Kesito another former Minister of Justice was present.
