Sharing the ”Snøhetta”-experience with aspiring Ethiopian architects

Last updated: 04.01.2012 // On the 2nd of January, Norwegian architect Kjetil Trædal Thorsen gave a lecture to a packed hall at the Ethiopian Institute of Architecture in Addis Abeba.

Mr. Thorsen is the founder of the renowned architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design office based in Oslo, Norway and New York City. Among its most notable works is New National Opera House in Oslo , Bibliotheca Alexandrina (Library of Alexandria) in Egypt, Norwegian Embassy in Berlin, Lillehammer Art Museum in Norway, and National September 11th Memorial Museum Pavilion.

During his lecture, he focused on his company’s philosophy and take on architecture. His audience consisted of 200 aspiring Ethiopian architects, namely students at the Ethiopian Institute of Architecture. The institute has a strong connection with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology – NTNU in Trondheim. Five faculty members have received their PHDs in urban planning from the Norwegian institution.
