PRO Arba Minch: A 'new' New Vision

Last updated: 22.07.2011 // New Vision Kindergarten and Primary School was established in 2005, with economic support from Norwegian organization PRO Arba Minch as the financial backbone. Now, six years later, the number of current beneficiaries has climbed to thirty children, and the total number of pupils currently attending the kindergarten and school, self-financed and financed by PRO Arba Minch combined, has surpassed 200.

Beneficiaries are children living in poverty because of the devastating effects of HIV/AIDS – they are orphans, children of single parents or live with family members who are too sick to provide sufficient financial means. The employees are largely women, in order to support female economic empowerment, and local employment is at the core of the enterprise.

At New Vision, the children are taught, fed and clothed, and more is to come: the management is considering moving from its current, limited, locations to a larger compound. The move would give the opportunity of expanding the classes offered beyond grade 4, and perhaps even offer the possibility of a small boarding component to the school.
