Nordic and African Foreign Ministers meet in Dakar today

Last updated: 12.05.2010 // On May 12th, Foreign Minister and State Secretaries from the four Nordic countries will meet with a number of African counterparts in Dakar, Senegal to discuss on issues of mutual interest. State Secretary Erik Lahnstein will represent Norway.

The meeting is a part of a yearly meeting sequence between the Nordic countries and a group consisting of  South Africa, Nigeria, Tanzania, Mozambique, Ghana, Mali, Senegal, Botswana, Benin and  Lesotho. The meetings have been held since the year 2000, and the idea is to have a forum for dialogue supplementing Development partnerships and other international forum.

Themes on the agenda for this year’s meeting are connected with climate, peace and security in Africa, democracy and good governance as well as various issues related to the United Nations. The meeting will conclude on May 13th.

Yesterday, H.E Ambassador Jens Petter Kjemprud hosted a dinner in Addis Abeba for Ambassadors of the countries, who will be represented at the meeting, including a discussion on the same agenda points as planned for the meeting in Dakar.
