The partners involved in the project are Addis Ababa University and Myngsung Christian Medical Centre in Ethiopia and University of Bergen, Centre for International Health in Norway, which have just just signed an agreement.

The first doctor from Ethiopia will arrive shorty, and attend the preparatory course in September, the five others, two from Ethiopia and three from Norway, will start in november.

The project is aiming at developing neurosurgery services in Ethiopia by establishing a modern department of neurosurgery at Addis Ababa University, Medical Faculty and MCM, a private hospital in Addis. In addition Ethiopian medical doctors will be part of a training program for neurosurgery, including a 6 months practical training in Bergen. After finishing the specialist training, the doctors will go back to work at their home institution, but also be teaching at medical schools and universities in Ethiopia. The Norwegian medical staff will be exposed to and gain experience from medical cases not very common in Norway, in addition to the cultural exposure.

Fredskorpset facilitates the mutual exchange of personnel between organisations and businesses in Norway and Africa, Asia and Latin-America. Their mandate is to contribute to a lasting improvement in economic, social and political conditions around the world.
