Airspace currently remains closed, or partially closed, in more than 20 European countries and weather experts say wind patterns mean the cloud is not likely to move far until later in the week. That leaves travellers stuck from going home or arriving at their destinations, putting an extra strain on the performance in many workplaces. Airlines are reported to be suffering a cost of $200m per day in lost revenue.
Ethiopian Airlines has suspended flights to five destinations in Europe; London, Stockholm, Paris Burssels as well as cargo-flights to Liege in Belgium. Carriers from the airline were stuck in London and Liege. This affects travels to and from Ethiopia.
The suspension of cargo flights causes problems for export of flowers from African countries including Ethiopia. It also leads to an acute lack of Ethiopian and African roses in Norwegian shops.
