AU Summit Opened in Addis Ababa

28.01.2008 // The Council of Foreign Ministers of the African Union was opened in Addis Ababa yesterday, by outgoing Chairperson Alpha Oumar Konaré, while the Summit of Heads of States will commence on Thursday 31 January 2008.

 Elections for a new Commission is on the agenda; an audit of the structure and organization of the African Union as well as current conflicts on the continent, i.e. Sudan, Kenya and Somalia will be discussed.  

Industrialisation in Africa will be the important thematic focus during the week. 

Senior Advisor/Ambassador Kjell Harald Dalen and Senior Advisor Hilde Solbakken from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Oslo attend the meetings along with H.E. Ambassador Kjemprud and Minister Counsellor Ree from the Embassy in Addis Ababa.  Norway will, in connection with the Summit, co-chair with the US an International Contact Group meeting on Somalia, hosted by the AU Secretariat.
