On 4th and 5th April, Ethiopia and Norway co-hosted a meeting on UN reform inviting director generals for UN affairs from several other countries. The two-day meeting saw discussions about reform ideas and policy recommendations for the next Secretary General of the United Nations. Read more

October 24th marked 70 years since the establishment of the United Nations. In Ethiopia it was celebrated with a colorful flag rising ceremony in front of the UN Conference Center in Addis Ababa. The Norwegian Parliament’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence visited Addis Ababa on the 23rd to the 27th of February. The purpose of the visit was to get a better understanding of the development of the African continent in general and the African Union in particular, as well as an update on the situation in Ethiopia. Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støre expressed sorrow on receiving news of the Ethiopian Prime Minister’s death. “The ties between Norway and Ethiopia go back a long way, and during Mr Meles’s term in office Ethiopia and Norway have enhanced their cooperation in several important areas,” he commented.
