Norway supports CVEA

Last updated: 02.09.2009 // The Royal Norwegian Embassy signed an agreement with the Civic and Voter Education Association (CVEA) Tuesday.

- This is a very important contribution to our work, says CVEA-director Saheleselassie Abebe. The agreement comes as a support to the Donor Consortium for CVEA phase II. The purpose of the project is to raise the awareness level of grassroots communities through civic education training on good governance, human rights and voters education on cross cutting issues such as gender equality, child rights, the rights of mionrities and disabled. The project will also initiate and increase communities’ participation in the socio-economic activities of their localities; enhance basic democratic cultures, such as tolerance, understanding and open dialogue.
 
The project will also initiate grassroots communties to actively participate in the upcoming Zonal, municial, urban centres, woreda and Kebele elections. The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will contribute with one million Norwegian kroner, close to two million birr. CVEA’s director Saheleselassie Abebe and Ambassador Jens-Petter Kjemprud signed the agreement in the embassy Tuesday.
