On the 28th of August, the 50th anniversary was celebrated for Ethiopia’s oldest operational hydropower-plant. The 458 metre long dam was an important part of the country’s development during the time of Emperor Haile Selassie, and also then, Norwegian expertise was utilized to make the most of hydropower in Ethiopia. The Ethiopian Construction Industry Federation has about 32 000 members. Lately, more than 900 workers in four construction companies have organised themselves and become part of the federation, because of training and funding received from their Norwegian colleagues with the Norwegian Construction Industry Federation. The Norwegian Embassy’s relay team yesterday won the Great Ethiopian Run Ring Road Relay for the second year running, quite comfortably beating the embassies of United Kingdom and Italy, finishing second and third respectively. Ethiopians will go to the polls on Sunday the 23rd of May in the elections for Federal and Regional Parliaments. Over 30 million Ethiopians have registered to vote, and 56 parties will contest. During the last two weeks, both government and opposition parties have campaigned all over Ethiopia, both with rallies and posters encouraging the public to vote for them. Read more
