At his former duty-station in Addis Abeba, Tomoca in the Piazza area is a coffee-shop frequented by foreign visitors and Ethiopians alike . The company has been roasting coffee since 1953, and its name is abbreviated from the Italian “Torrefazione Moderna Café”, which directly translates modern coffee roasting.
At the charming cofeeshop in Piazza, one can buy exclusive Ethiopian Arabica coffee such as Harrar, Yirgachefee, Sidamo, and Limu. The company has also been exporting its coffee to North America, Europe, Middle East, Japan and Australia for the last decade. In 2010, Sudan emerged as one of the top ten nations importing from Ethiopia, and now coffee from Tomoca can be added to the list of imported products. The company also has a small business in Norway’s neighbouring country Sweden.
