Norwegian company wins big fertilizer contract in Ethiopia

Last updated: 26.10.2009 // The Norwegian fertilizer company Yara has won a 100.000 tonnes delivery contract for fertilizer in the latest round of bidding, approved by the Ministry of Agriculture. Yara was among four companies selected. Norwegian Yara is the world's biggest mineral fertilizer producer.

Yara has been established as a major actor in the Ethiopian fertililizer market for a number of years and last year won the bulk of the more than 600.000 tonnes delivered.  The 100.000 tonnes this year will be delivered through Yara's subsidiary in France (Yara France). Yara has more than 8000 employees and operations in more than 50 countries (see www.yara.com), with its headquarters in Oslo.
 
Every year the Yara Foundation delivers the Yara prize for a Green Revolution, the first recipient being Prime Minister Meles Zenawi in 2005 as an acknowledgement for Ethiopian agricultural policies.
