Ethiopian honey - readymade for the Norwegian market?

30.10.2008 // Honey has a very special place in daily life of many Ethiopians. Not only is it used for food, but is equally used as a medical remedy and as the ingredience from which many Ethiopians make tejj - the Ethiopian honey liquor.

You find Ethiopian honey of different quality and brands and from different parts of the country, lowlands and highland. You find the more European continental, dark, soft, running honey as well as the more trditionally popular honey in Norway, the lighter honey with more texture.

Most of the honey is considered to be organic and Dimma Honey from Tigray market it as such. A number of brands is to be found in the shops these days. Tutu Honey aim at exporting to Norway and the quality seems good.

Honningcentralen visited earlier this year and will return in November, hopefully to wrap up a contract for Ethiopian honey to penetrate the Norwegian market from next year.
