Norway signs agreements for NOK 60 million grant with ECA

Last updated: 13.12.2010 // On the 7th of December, Norway signed three agreements with the Economic Commission for Africa for support to the implementation of the ECA Business Plan 2010 -2012. The agreements covers the areas of Governance, Climate and Gender, with focus on illicit capital flow, supporting the African Climate Policy Centre to further African interests in the international climate change dialogue, and them implementation of ECA’s gender programme, including the Women’s Rights Observatory.

Norwegian support for ECA dates back to 1984, when a bilateral agreement was signed for a two year study on “road safety in Africa”. Since then, Norway has signed several grants and cooperation agreements with ECA, particularly helping the Commission to deepen its work in the areas of Gender, Good governance, Poverty reduction, Millennium Development Goals and Assisting Regional Integration in Africa.

The support is aligned with the Joint Financing Arrangement (JFA) of mulitdonor support to the ECA Business plan that was signed earlier this year.
The JFA ensures donor harmonization by coordinating efforts, simplifying procedures and sharing information. Reporting is only required once a year in the new agreement format, and the reporting requirements are the same for all of  the donors. In addition to Norway, the UK, Sweden and Denmark are also part of the arrangement.

Charge d’affaires ai.i Rolf Ree signed the agreements with his counterpart Doreen Bongoy-Mawalla, Director of the ECA Division of Administration.
