Ethiopian and Norwegian PM together in climate panel

Last updated: 17.02.2010 // The Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and his Norwegian counterpart, Jens Stoltenberg, will both be members of a new United Nations high-level Advisory Group on Climate Change Financing announced UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Friday.

On 12 February, Ban Ki-moon announced that Britain and Ethiopia will head a new UN panel which aims to secure $100 billion every year to help developing nations cut emissions and adapt to climate change by 2020.

The panel will be jointly led by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his Ethiopian counterpart Meles Zenawi, and will include Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and Guyana's President Bharrat Jagdeo.

The panel will work with governments, central bankers and finance experts to find ways of cooperating with public and private companies in raising the money pledged during last December's climate talks in Copenhagen.
