NATO is providing technical advice, and making available subject matter experts, experiences from international operations, and access to relevant training facilities to the AUC in the context of the African Standby Force. The Norwegian Embassy is acting as the informal liaison between the AUC and the NATO Headquarters.

In his capacity as NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary-General, Ambassador Jochems has frequently visited Addis Ababa for discussions with the African Union.  These visits have also given him the opportunity to brief the AU Peace and Security Council on the cooperation between NATO and AUC. During this visit, the formalisation of the ongoing cooperation between the two institutions was on the agenda. He also took the opportunity to bid his frequent interlocutors at the AU and the UN farewell as this was his last visit to Addis Ababa as the NATO DASG.

The Norwegian Embassy hosted a reception to provide Amb. Maurits Jochems the opportunity to debrief representatives of NATO Member States on the outcome of his visit.
