Norwegian Capacity
The Norwegian Refugee Council operates NORCAP, one of the world’s largest and most frequently used emergency standby rosters. At any given time, approximately 120 members are on assignment globally. The mandate of the roster is to strengthen United Nations (UN) organizations’ personnel capacity in humanitarian operations.
Contribution to Ethiopia
In its annual report for 2009, NORCAP reports that eight members had been seconded to agencies operating in Ethiopia. These eight were distributed between the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) (1), the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) (1), UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) (3) and the World Food Programme (WFP) (3). Africa was the continent where NORCAP members did most work in 2009.
