Our embassy is green washed!

Last updated: 28.09.2009 // The past week a team from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) has visited the embassy for a Climate and Environmental Review. Feedback and training on how the embassy and its development cooperation partners can raise awareness and reduce impacts on climate and environment was provided.

Hans Olav Ibrekk, Climate Coordinator for Norad and Leif Tore Trædal, from Department for Private Sector Development and Environment in Norad have spent one week "climate proofing" the embassy and a selection of its Development Assistance Portfolio in order to contribute with expertise to reduce its climate and environmental footprints.

Amongst other projects, part of the team visited the Mine Action Training Center at Entoto, 3000 meters above sea level, where 27 dogs are being trained at present. Entoto Mine Action Training Centre is run by The Ethiopian Mine Action Organization (EMAO) in cooperation with Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), who has been working with mine action in Ethiopia since 2001. The embassy has supported EMAO since 2003 through NPA. Hans Olav Ibrekk happily concluded that the Mine Action Training Center complies with  International Mine Acton Standards (IMAS) and that NPA has even higher standards than IMAS to protect the environment.

The embassy staff was provided with a successful and very useful briefing of the team’s findings, key climate change issues, Norwegian Climate Change policy and training sessions for incorporating climate change and environment more effectively in future development cooperation with Ethiopia.
