Technical support to Eastern Nile office

Last updated: 06.05.2010 // The Royal Norwegian Embassy supports the Eastern Nile Technical Regional Office (ENTRO) in connection with the Mandaya and Beko Abo feasibility studies. An agreement was signed in December 2009 and the parties met for an inception meeting on 3 May 2010.

Norway is funding the feasibility studies of Mandaya and Beko Abo multipurpose projects on the Blue Nile in Ethiopia with the overall goal of developing reliable and environmentally sustainable power supply and improved living standards for Ethiopia and the region.

These feasibility studies depend on accessing information and data from downstream countries. “ENTRO is well placed to play a crucial role in this coordination process,” noted Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Rolf Ree at the inception meeting. The Norwegian Embassy is supporting ENTRO with NOK 6 million (ca. ETB 14 million) between January 2010 and April 2012 for facilitating regional consultation and other regional activities regarding the Mandaya and Beko Abo multipurpose project.

Minister Counsellor Ree was accompanied by Programme Officer for Clean Energy Mersha Argaw and Trainee Øystein Nedrebø and met with ENTRO Executive Director Ahmed Khalid Eldaw, Regional Hydropower Expert Mamdouh M. Hassan, and other ENTRO staff.
