At the meeting, the parties underlined the importance of carrying out the feasibility-study in a timely manner with high quality, taking into concern environmental issues.
-The embassy puts considerable emphasis on this project, in line with the Ethiopian focus on hydropower as an important component for economic growth and development. We see similarities between Ethiopia’s current economic stage and our own history, where hydropower played a vital role for Norway’s economic development in the late 20th century. We are happy to see Norwegian companies involved in Mandaya/Beko Abo feasibility study, says Ambassador Kjemprud, adding that the embassy also has a desire to see a stronger Norwegian business engagement within the hydropower sector.
Ambassador Jens Petter Kjemprud, counsellor Bente Nilson and programme officer Mersha Argaw as well as senior advisor Ralph Kårhammer from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation represented Norway in the meeting.
