Yalleo woreda joins the fight against FGM

The people of Yallo woreda in the Afar National Regional State made a public declaration officially denouncing female genital mutilation and other harmful traditions in ceremony held in Yallo town on the 24th of November 2011 as part of the effort to contribute for the abandonment of FGM in Ethiopia. Yallo is one of the 32 woredas in the region situated in the north-east of Ethiopia.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church Development and Inter Church Aid Commission (EOTC/DICAC) in partnership with the Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) organized: “A Theological Reflection in the teachings of EOTC on Female Genital Mutilation” and a contextual bible study on Gender Based Violence entitled “Tamar’s Campaign” on Thursday October 13, 2011 at Desalegn Hotel in Addis Ababa.

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, International organization Women Deliver announced the “Women Deliver 100,”list of the hundred most inspiring people who have delivered for girls and women. Two of the people on the list are Norwegian, namely Dr.Tore Godal and Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg.
