22.02.2010 // The Ethiopian giraffe Tsehai is the star of an internationally recognised children’s TV. The programme, which teaches Ethiopian kids critical skills and values, was awarded the 2008 Japan Prize by a jury under Norwegian leadership and partly funded by Norway.
“Tsheai Loves Learning” is a popular Ethiopian children’s TV which reaches an estimated 5.2 million children every weekend. The programme has received international acclaim and won the Japan Prize in the preschool category in 2008. Bruktawit Tigabu, co-founder of the production company Whiz Kids Workshop, received the prize from jury leader Vibeke Furst Haugen, Head of Children's Programmes and Channels of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK).

The Amharic language educational show communicates important values to children, amongst them anti-corruption. For this the show has been awarded financial support from the Ethiopian Anti-Corruption Commission which Norway supports through the Democratic Institutions Fund.
After some time off air, a series of new episodes is scheduled to appear on ETV from September 2010. Take a look at the preview below. The show is partly inspired by “Sesame Street” from the US, and Norwegians may notice similarities with the Norwegian show “Sesam Stasjon”.
