17th International Conference of Ethiopian Studies

Last updated: 30.10.2009 // As the 17th ICES conference takes place in Addis Ababa from 2-5 November 2009, musicians from World Music Ensemble, NTNU Norway and Yared Music School, Addis Ababa University, meet again to mix their different musical cultures. The Norwegian Embassy cordially invites you to an Ethio-Norwegian musical evening at the Sheraton Gazlight tonight, 3 November at 20:00.

During the 16th International Conference of Ethiopian Studies (ICES) in Trondheim, Norway in 2007, a music collaboration between Norwegian and Ethiopian musicians was established. At the 17th ICES the partners, World Music Ensemble from NTNU Trondheim, Norway and Yared Music School from Addis Ababa University, meet again to perform two concerts, make a joint music production and conduct jazz workshops.

The concerts will take place as follows:

Monday 2 November: National Theater 7:00 pm (doors open 6:30 pm), Entrance 10 birr

Tuesday 3 November: Gazlight, Sheraton 8:00 pm (Standard Gazlight dresscode applies; preference for conference participants) 

 

The 17th International Conference of Ethiopian Studies (ICES) will be held at the Addis Ababa University from November 2 to 5, 2009. A few hundred scholars -Ethiopians and foreigners- are expected to take part in the proceedings: Scholars will come from Norway, Japan, Europe, the US, Israel, Russia and other countries. The Conference marks the 50 years golden jubilee celebration because the first ICES was held in Rome from 2 to 4 April 1959.
