UN Security Council on support to the AU Peacekeeping

On Wednesday 18. March the UN Security Council discussed the report of the joint UN-AU Panel on increased cooperation and support from the UN for AU peacekeeping operations. In the debate, which was open also for non-members of the Council, Norway was one of the countries that expressed support for a proposal that would open up for UN support to AU peacekeeping operations through assessed contributions. As a follow up the Council requested the UN Secretary General to present a report to the Security Council by 18. September this year on practical ways to provide effective support to the AU when it undertakes peacekeeping operations authorized by the UN. For more about the meeting see the link to the right.
