Norway and Ethiopia sign Memorandum of understanding on returnees

In the next two decades, Ethiopia will see economic growth without an increase in climate emissions. This was the message from Prime Minister Meles Zenawi during the launch of at the Ethiopia’s Climate Resilient Green Economy strategy at climate summit in Durban on December 8th. Norway and the UK have pledged to partner with Ethiopia on climate issues and will provide economic support.

We welcome the serious and detailed discussions held on transitional financial arrangements and commercial oil fees between the Government of Sudan (GOS) and Government of South Sudan (GOSS) that were facilitated by the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) in Addis Ababa on 25-30 November.

The people of Yallo woreda in the Afar National Regional State made a public declaration officially denouncing female genital mutilation and other harmful traditions in ceremony held in Yallo town on the 24th of November 2011 as part of the effort to contribute for the abandonment of FGM in Ethiopia. Yallo is one of the 32 woredas in the region situated in the north-east of Ethiopia.

Norway condemns the bombing of the Yida refugee camp in South Sudan by the Sudanese military, and urges the parties to come to the negotiating table to find a solution to the conflict in Southern Kordofan State and Blue Nile State.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church Development and Inter Church Aid Commission (EOTC/DICAC) in partnership with the Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) organized: “A Theological Reflection in the teachings of EOTC on Female Genital Mutilation” and a contextual bible study on Gender Based Violence entitled “Tamar’s Campaign” on Thursday October 13, 2011 at Desalegn Hotel in Addis Ababa.
