Margot – a new first secretary at the embassy

15.12.2009 // In August 2009, Margot Igland Skarpeteig started working as embassy secretary in Addis Ababa. Prior to this, she has worked as a researcher and advisor, also in the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad).

Margot has a M.Phil degree in Human Geography from the University of Oslo. With 13 years of experience from working with development politics and human rights issues, Margot has a solid background.

Margot has been a researcher in institutions such as the University of Bergen and University of Agder and advisor in the Norwegian Human Rights Fund, the Church of Norway Council on Ecumenical and International Affairs and Norad. In Norad, Margot worked as the Coordinator for Ethiopia, led projects on the issue of education in humanitarian emergencies, and was engaged in research and higher education.

Here at the embassy Margot is a first secretary responsible for the areas of good governance, human rights and humanitarian issues.

- There are so many exciting jobs around the world, but Ethiopia was me and my family’s first choice. It is a great country to live and work in. I am so pleased to be here, and we already feel like home, Margot says.
